Often you may want to search for emails in Outlook that contain multiple words in the subject.
You can type the following formulas into the Search bar to do so:
Formula 1: Search for Emails Using AND
subject:NBA AND Data
This particular example will retrieve all emails in your current mailbox that contain the words “NBA” and “Data” in the subject.
Formula 2: Search for Emails Using OR
subject:NBA OR Data
This particular example will retrieve all emails in your current mailbox that contain the words “NBA” or “Data” in the subject.
The following examples show how to use each of these formulas in practice.
Example 1: Search Emails Using “AND” in Outlook
Suppose that you would like to retrieve all emails that contain the words “NBA” and “Data” in the subject.
To do so, click the Search bar along the top ribbon in Outlook and then type the following:
subject:NBA AND Data
The following screenshot shows how to use this formula in practice:
We can see that this returns two emails with the following subjects:
- NBA Data
- 2023 NBA Data Updated
Notice that both of these emails contain the words “NBA” and “Data” in the subject.
Example 2: Search Emails Using “OR” in Outlook
Suppose that you would like to retrieve all emails that contain the words “NBA” or “Data” in the subject.
To do so, click the Search bar along the top ribbon in Outlook and then type the following:
subject:NBA OR Data
The following screenshot shows how to use this formula in practice:
We can see that this returns three emails with the following subjects:
- NBA Data
- 2023 NBA Data Updated
- NHL Data
Notice that all of these emails contain the words “NBA” or “Data” in the subject.
Note that in this example we used the OR operator one time but you can use OR as many times as you would like to search for even more keywords.
For example, you could use the following syntax to search for emails that contain one of three keywords:
subject:NBA OR Data OR 2023
This would return all emails that contain “NBA” or “Data” or “2023” in the subject.
